Mattie's Mountain Farm Joins the United States Lavender Growers Association

 

April 2016:  Mattie's Mountain Farm has become a proud member of the United States Lavender Growers Association (USGLA).  The USGLA allows a collective voice for lavender growers in the United States.  It supports lavender farms, connects growers to buyers and provides continual education for both lavender growers and lavnder users.

Mattie's Mountain Farm Seeks American Tree Farm System Certification

 

September 2015:  Owners of Mattie's Mountain Farm are seeking American Tree Farm System (ATFS) certification. The American Tree Farm System (ATFS) is a program sponsored by the American Forest Foundation.  ATFS will conduct an inspection of Mattie's Mountain Farm after reviewing the Farm's Forest Management Plan, a required first step on the path toward ATFS certification.  With the ATFS certification, Mattie's Mountain Farm will join the ranks of other family owned tree farms who seek to perserve one of our nation's vital resources - our forestland.

Owners of Mattie's Mountain Farm Attend the 11th Annual Landowners' Wood & Wildlife Conference Sponsored by the Virginia Cooperative Extension

 

March 2015:  Owners of Mattie 's Mountain Farm attended the Landowners' Woods & Wildlife Conference sponsored by the Virginia Cooperative Extension and Virginia Tech. The conference educated landowners on a variety of topics focused on wildlife and forestry conservation practices.  The owners were introduced to several new applications designed to quickly identify birds and trees using the iPhone platform.  

 

The National Wildlife Federation Certifies Mattie's Mountain Farm as a Certified Wildlife Habitat

 

January 2015:  The National Wildlife Federation recognizes Mattie's Mountain Farm as a certified Wildlife Habitat issuing them number 184251. Mattie's Mountain Farm is certified in the National Wildlife Federations's worldwide network of mini-refuges. Because of the owner's conscientious planning, landscaping and sustainable gardening, wildlife may find quality habitat - food, water, cover, and places to raise their young.

Owners of Mattie's Mountain Farm Attend the National Tree Farm Convention

 

July 2014:  The owners of Mattie's Mountain Farm attended the National Tree Farm Convention in Pittsburgh, PA that was held from 17 to 19 July, 2014.  They participated in several sessions to learn the latest on Best Management Practices regarding forest stewardship.
