Lavender

Looking forward, we are expanding our operations and are currently in the process of developing lavender fields at Mattie's Mountain Farm.  Lavender is a perennial plant that will add to the farm's beauty without compromising conservation of the farm's wildlife habitat and forestlands.

Mattie's Mountain Farm is a proud member of the United States Lavender Growers Association (USLGA).  The USGLA allows a collective voice for lavender growers in the U.S.  It supports lavender farms, connects growers to buyers and provides continual education for both lavender growers and lavender users.

Mattie's Mountain Farm is located in Plant Hardiness Zone 6b and we intend to grow several varieties of lavendula Augustifolia which is more commonly known as "English" lavender as well as several varieties of Lavendula x intermedia, otherwise known as lavandins.

Our plan is to make our lavender available to the public in the form of:

  • Fresh cut flowers
  • Dried cut flowers
  • Live plants
  • Sachets
  • Soap
  • Aromatherapy oil
  • Lotions
  • Dream pillows
  • Culinary purposes - Yes, you can eat lavender!

Speaking of culinary, we believe the honeybees will enjoy the lavender fields as much as we plan too.  If all goes well, we hope to have lavender honey available to the public.

Stay tuned as we provide updates on the development of our lavender fields!

At the center of the lavender fields, we plan to construct a large boardwalk pavillion.  From the pavillion, our guests will be able to gaze upon the lavender fields as well as view the hardwood trees in the background.

We plan to make the pavillion available as a wedding venue. The peak blooming time of our lavender is from May through June.
